Sentiero dei Fojaroi
Fojaroi Trail
The Sentiero dei Fojaroi is a journey through time — an adventure through enchanted woodland and ancient mountain stories. Set in the heart of the Belluno Prealps in the municipality of Seren del Grappa, this 6 km loop trail winds gently through green meadows and cool beech shade, offering breathtaking views and endless small wonders to discover.
The name Fojaroi refers to the distinctive stone huts of the valley, with their curious roofs made of woven beech branches and leaves — a centuries-old mountain-building technique that is only now being carefully restored and preserved. They appear from the forest like fairy-tale houses, and children are completely spellbound by them, imagining the lives once lived within their ancient walls.
The trail starts from the hamlet of Pian della Chiesa, passing through magical spots like the village of Col dei Bof, where time seems to have simply stopped. Further along, the path enters the peaceful Val Granda a haven of quiet where birdsong and the scent of the forest accompany every step. Then, suddenly, the trees part: the Vette Feltrine appear before you in all their glory, with the sharp ridgelines of the Dolomiti Bellunesi rising dramatically behind them.
On clear days, the panorama stretches across the entire Stizzon valley the kind of view that makes everyone stop, breathe and say nothing for a moment.
A 3-hour walk suitable for the whole family, best explored between May and October. No shelters along the route, so pack water and snacks. And bring your sense of wonder you'll need it.
